Today it’s a true delight to share with you a very special autumn wedding from earlier this year. Not only was it full of inspiration and pretty floral designs, but it was also a pumpkin fest and we had such a wonderful time creating these beautiful displays. It became one of our most popular pins and instagram posts of the year. So today, it is my pleasure to introduce you to Cesca and Alec.
Answers by Cesca.
How long have you been together?
Just over 4 years (we actually got married on our 4th anniversary!)
How did you meet?
We met through speedway racing (Alec used to ride and I still do!) at an amateur meeting in Kings Lynn where we were on the same team, but didn’t really speak to each other… Fast forward 2 or 3 years and Alec pops up on Facebook asking how my racing was going?
We started talking and met up a few times, but it wasn’t until our 3rd date that I realised he’d actually been asking me out on dates! The rest, as they say, is history!
When & how did you get engaged?
We got engaged on 27th December 2018, on top of a mountain in France where we were snowboarding over Christmas. We were sat on the side of the slope, Alec distracted me and then when I turned back to him he had the ring box out and said ‘well, will you marry me then?’. I instantly burst into tears and he had to remind me I hadn’t actually responded to him!
Which date did you chose for your wedding day?
10th October, as it was our 4th anniversary (meaning we didn’t have to learn a new anniversary date!)
Where did you hold your ceremony & reception?
Stratton Court Barn. We wanted an intimate wedding with a rustic feel, and we felt that venue fit the bill perfectly!
Who was involved in planning your wedding?
Mainly myself and Alec, but we had help from my bridesmaids, our parents, and of course Karin who works at the venue!
Did you both have Hen/Stag Do’s?
Yes, Alec played mini golf and went out for a curry. My bridesmaids organised me a surprise weekend away in Wales which included a prosecco and games night, afternoon tea, sea coasteering (where we all nearly drowned!) an a mud assault course (it was cold, wet and very very muddy!).
How many people did you invite to share your special day?
50 to the ceremony and 80 at the reception
Who were your Bridesmaids?
My twin sister Hannah, and my best friends Zoe and Hema.
Who were your Best Man/Men & Usher?
Alec’s brother Lewys was Best Man, then his friends Jay and Corey were Groomsmen
What did you wear?
It was a Justin Alexander (8936) long sleeved crepe dress in ivory with a silver beaded illusion back.
What did Alec wear?
Alec wore a navy suit and waistcoat from Topman!
What about your Mum?
She had a champagne coloured 50’s style dress and jacket from a shop called Revolution, in Leamington Spa.
What theme/colour scheme did you chose?
Orange, Navy and Peach – we wanted an autumnal, rustic feel to the day and felt those colours worked well.
How did you feel on the morning of your wedding?
What did you choose to eat?
We had tapas for the wedding breakfast, and mexican for the reception.
Who made speeches?
My Dad, Alec and Lewys (Best Man). My Dad quoted pirates of the Caribbean in a weird/hilarious Pirate/Cornish accent that had everyone in stitches! He also reminded everyone that I looked like E.T. when I was born! I interrupted Alec to correct him halfway through his speech (oops!) and the Best Man nearly cried during his!
Which song did you choose for your ‘First Dance’?
Otis Redding – My Girl, just because we really like the song!
What was your favourite part of the day?
I don’t know if I could pick just one! Putting the dress on with my hair and make up done and seeing myself done up for the first time, walking down the aisle as man and wife, the speeches, and being able to share the day with everyone special to us. We also had a family member who used to be on the West End sing a cappella for us, which was the first time we’d heard him sing as was just magical!
What was your one Wedding Day ‘Must Have’?
Lipstick! You end up re-applying it so many times over the day!
Would you change anything or do you have any advice for currently engaged couples?
Make sure you take some time for yourselves on the day just to soak it up and enjoy being married! You end up being pulled in so many directions that it’s easy to lose track of each other and you end up not seeing each other for the rest of the day! And, if you’re trying to DIY your decorations and they’re not done in time for the day, or you haven’t got something like a guestbook or an order of service – don’t stress over it! No one but you will know it’s not there, and no one’s going say anything about it! It saved me so much stress on the day!
Also, think about preserving your flowers BEFORE the wedding, rather than stressing about it the day after, like I did!
Would you like to mention any particular wedding suppliers who assisted with your day?
- Firstly Karin at Stratton Court Barn, who was a font of knowledge, and an absolute star on the day!
- Our caterers, S and J Catering, who prepared some delicious food (we got so many compliments on our menu!).
- Polly and her Mum at True Romantica Bridal, Kenilworth for helping make sure my dress was perfect and going the extra mile to make sure I was comfortable in it.
- Emma Goodwin hair and make up, who did the hair and make up for myself and the bridal party (and did an amazing job).
- Secrets Boutique, Daventry who did my manicure and eyelashes.
- Of course our fabulous photographer Rob Smith, who captured some stunning images of the day that we’ll treasure forever!
- And last but not least, you for creating the most gorgeous flowers for the day! The bouquets were absolutely beautiful; they looked even better than I imagined! I was so impressed with how you managed to capture my vision perfectly, and the arch and the table decorations really helped to set off the venue and create the perfect autumnal look.
Where are you going on your honeymoon?
We’ve already had our mini-moon (we went to Portugal for a week a few days after the wedding), but we’re looking at going somewhere a bit further away next year! So far we’ve got Costa Rica, Hawaii and Canada on the list, but it’s so hard to choose!
Thank you so much to Cesca and Alec for sharing their special day.
Have a great week!
