I hope you are all keeping well! Today, as we start to look to the future beyond Lockdown, I am delighted to share with you the wedding day of Alice & Daniel. It is lovely to have the opportunity to reflect back to a time before these past couple of months. It is my pleasure to handover to Alice, as she reminisices on their beautiful day.
How did you meet?
We’ve been together since Feb 2018, we met through playing Pokemon Go! (Which we both still love to do.) Dan spotted me at a Pokemon Raid (which is when a group come together to beat a boss in the game.) He stalked me on facebook through a mutual friend and the rest is history.
We got engaged a month after moving in together in October 2018. We have a way of saying ‘I Love You’ by squeezing the others hand 3 times, one morning Dan squeezed it 4 times and asked me what he was asking. It was “will you marry me?” I said “sure, why not.”
Which date did you chose for your wedding day?
We chose the 29th February, so we would only have to celebrate an anniversary every 4 years and we were super lucky it fell on a Saturday in 2020.
Where did you hold your ceremony & reception?
We got officially got married on the 7th January 2020, as the venue we wanted to hold our ceremony didn’t have a licence. We then had a blessing with all our friends and family, with the help of our dear friend Tom on the 29th February.
Who was involved in planning your wedding?
We did 90% ourselves, we wanted to keep it simple and really enjoy the day. We both work in the hospitality sector and have worked on lots of weddings in our years and the couples that keep it simple, have the most fun.
How many people did you invite to share your special day?
We had 45 attend our day and that number reached 77 in the evening.
Who were your Bridesmaids?
Rebecca Pearce (best friend) and Adele Kendall (sister in law)
Who were your Best Man/Men & Usher?
Stewart O’Neil was Dan’s Best Man and he had Tom Boyd and Dickon Johnstone as Groomsmen.
What did you wear?
I wore a champagne wedding dress with lots of lace detail.
What did Dan wear?
A loose weave Dark Blue suit with Yellow Tie.
What theme/colour scheme did you chose?
We chose Yellow, as we are both Team Instinct in Pokemon Go and the team colour is yellow. Its also such a fresh and bright colour for an early spring wedding.
How did you feel on the morning of your wedding?
Rushed! We had so much to do before my hair and makeup lady arrived. I didn’t sit down until we ate at 4pm
What did you choose to eat?
We had a Beef Stew for our meat option and a Veg Chilli for the Vegetarians
Who made speeches?
The Best man, Daniel and My dad Colin Gray.
Which song did you choose for your ‘First Dance’ & why?
We chose ‘It had to be you’ by Frank Sinatra, as one of my favourite films is When Harry Met Sally and that song plays when they realise they were meant to be together at the end of the film.
What was your favourite part of the day?
Hearing Dan’s vows was the most nerve racking and best part of the day for me. But I had so much fun dancing with everyone who came from my work place.
What was your one Wedding Day ‘Must Have’?
A traditional fruit wedding cake, made for us by Daniel’s grandma Nanny Peg.
Would you change anything or do you have any advice for currently engaged couples?
Don’t get married in Feb, its freezing when the photographer wants to take lots of outside group shots!
Any words of wisdom to future couples?
Don’t go over the top, only invite who you want there and make time to dance and enjoy everything you’ve done.
Would you like to mention any particular wedding suppliers who assisted with your day?
The Barn at Hulcott, near Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire.
MK Hog Roasts – who stepped in last minute when we were let down by our other supplier.
Where are you going on your honeymoon?
We hadn’t booked one as we were planning to go away in October. Unfortunately with everything it looks like we may not get away now until next year, but it means we can save that bit more and maybe go somewhere even better!
I hope you’ve enjoyed reading about Alice & Dan’s special day.
