Today, it is an extra special delight to share this wedding with you, as it was the marriage of my lovely school and Young Farmer friend Emily to her fiancé Simon. Their summer wedding was a real family affair, with the reception taking place on the grounds of Emily’s parent’s home. I was so honoured to be able to attend their wedding day, and it is my absolute pleasure to be able to share their special day with you. From the ice creams as we left church, to meeting their wedding present; a miniature dachshund called Chip, to the fireworks accompanied by fish and chips in the evening it was a day that suited them perfectly and was a joy to attend!
Questions answered by Emily.
How did you meet?
We went to the same school, but met properly through Young Farmers.
Tell us about your engagement!
We got engaged when we went away for the weekend to a lovely hotel with the most spectacular gardens.
When did you decide to hold your wedding?
We got married on 19th August. It had to be in the summer holidays and this was in the middle of the break, which seemed like a good idea!
Where did you decide to get married?
We held our wedding ceremony in the church in Preston Bissett, and had our reception at my parents house in the village. I had always wanted to get married in the church at Preston Bissett, so it was a bit of a non negotiable!
How many guests attended?
We had 120 people. We decided not to have evening guests as we wanted everybody to share the whole day with us
What did you wear?
I wore an ivory lace and beaded dress, which I initially wouldn’t try on because I didn’t like it on the hanger! I got it from Bicester Bridal – they were absolutely fabulous.
What about your lovely Groom and his Groomsmen?
Simon wore a blue suit with a tweed waistcoat and dashcund cufflinks! We hired these from The Cotswold Tailor in Woodstock, who was fantastic. My Mum made bowties for the boys out of our favourite fabric – Liberty’s ‘Queue at the Zoo’. Our dog Chip wore a bow tie as well as the boys!
What colour scheme did you choose?
We chose purples and blues, after deciding on bow tie fabric and bridesmaids dresses!
What food did you serve your guests?
We ate a picnic type of meal shared between guests on the table, we wanted the meal to not be too formal, so had platters of food to share and for pudding make your own eton mess.
Our wedding cake was a mixture of chocolate brownie and rocky road (our favourites), and in the evening we had loads of cheese and a fish and chip van.
We love gin, so had a gin bar in the evening, which didn’t have much left the following day!
Is there anything you would change from your wedding day?
I don’t think I would have changed anything! It was the most perfect day – we loved every second!
Thank you for all your help with the flowers. The bouquets and buttonholes looked amazing and everybody commented about them.
Have great week!
