I decided to enter the local Young Florist of the Year heats and I was lucky enough to create the winning design for my age group.
The brief was to create a bridal design to be carried by a Chelsea Gold medal winning gardener. My design was made from circles of silver birch bark cut from sheets, these reflected the trees used in ‘The Telegraph’ garden in 2012. I used small cream and yellow flowers to reflect those used in Sarah Price’s 2012 Gold Medal Winning Chelsea Garden including; Avalanche roses, ranunculus, ornithogalum, ‘kermit’ chrysanthemum and hellebores.
The pieces were set up in a competition room and judging commenced at 10:30 … We didn’t get the results until 2pm – it was a long, sickening wait until they announced 2nd place and then my name for first! Amazing the tears came flowing … We’re off to Chelsea, I’ve not even visited before let alone competed!
The brief for the show item hasn’t been released yet but as soon as I know which day’s we are exhibiting I shall let everyone know – it would be great to see familiar face’s whilst I am there.
