For everyone this has been a complex year, but the wedding industry has been particularly harshly affected. Not just the financial implications of the current circumstances, but the emotional ones too. Since the start of Lockdown, I’ve had far too many heartwrenching conversations with couples who are having to rearrange, what should’ve been the most precious day of their lives. Weddings are amazing, but they also take an huge amount of planning and can be stressful in normal circumstances. For couples who were due to marry this year, there have been angonising decisions to make, from venues cancelling last minute, to whether to go ahead without key family members. As I sit here writing this I’m wondering if we’ll even manage ten weddings this year. For a company that does on average 50 a year, that’s really tough.
I’m a traditional diary kind of girl, old fashioned pen and paper style is my favourite way to keep on top of everything, but my 2020 diary, its gathering dust. (And I hate a mid year one so I’ve just got to be patient!)
The reality is I’ve had to go digital. Some of my couples are now on their third date and my heart goes out to them. So much time, effort and coordination goes on in the lead up to a wedding not only for the couples and their families but the suppliers they choose too. Every time I see a bride or groom’s name in my inbox at the moment my heart sinks a little as after each government announcement there is another batch of postponements.
We are blessed to have wonderful couples who are looking out for us, as much as we are them. Those of you who postponed early on I hope your forget me nots are growing well! We’ve kept in touch with happy mail, as well as emails, phone calls and Instagram messages and we will keep on keeping in touch until the day we hand you your wedding bouquet… and after that too!
The four weddings we’ve been involved in were lovely, all very different! First off we had Alice and Daniel’s day, a couple who met through their love of Pokemon and who chose gorgeous yellow and ivory flowers for their big day. Then as COVID started to break we had the pleasure of doing the flowers for Pippa a Doctor and her now husband Richard. They wed at Huntsmill Farm and had delicate shades of blues, whites and yellows for their flower palette. As lockdown was announced on Friday 21st March, we heard the news that Amy and Charlie’s wedding venue had to cancel for the following morning BUT it just shows that whilst times were scary, it was a truly special time for coming together as a community as well. Take a read of their blog and see how they managed to get married and celebrate on the toughest weekend of the year! During lockdown Fabi and Harrison found a new date and tied the knot in Quainton church. They had a very small family affair afterwards and plan to celebrate properly next year at Bucks Railway Centre.
As I write this wedding number five’s flowers are being shipped into me! A riot of colour’s; cerise, soft blues, oranges and yellows for Roxanne and Tom who are getting married at Stratton Court Barn tomorrow! They may not be having all the guests they wished for, but their team of suppliers are pulling out all the stops for a gorgeous day for them. We simply cannot wait to say we’ve completed 5 weddings this year!
To make up for the distinct lack of real weddings, we are looking forward to getting our teeth stuck into a number of photo shoots in the next few weeks, first up is next Thursday, with the incredible Steph Kiely Photography; Last seen on Instagram making an arch in her kitchen, as she couldn’t find what she wanted! Lockdown is making us turn our hands to all sorts!
If you’ve been following us on Instagram or keep meaning to get in touch to enquire for your 2021 or 2022 wedding please don’t delay – we are already fully booked for Saturdays from May to September next year, the (digital) diary is super busy now we’ve rearranged dates for all of this years couples.
If we can do anything or help you in the meantime please get in touch, and if you are in the Wedding Industry, we’re all in this together and are thoroughly looking forward to working with you all in 2021!
Keep smiling and lots of love,
